While chakras are in no way physically discernable since they’re part of your spiritual being, they connect your spiritual essence to the material body that you inhabit.
The Seven Chakras
As human beings, we have seven key chakras. Each of these chakras connects your spirit to your body at a different location. They are:

- Source of agency that also regulates how you view yourself
- Helps you to bring desires into action

- Associated with the fire element and the color yellow
- The crown chakra (Sahasrara), which is located on the top of your head
- Governs spiritual consciousness
- Associated with an embodiment of the spirit and the color purple
- The throat chakra (Vishuddha), located in the throat, tongue, and mouth
- Allows for good communication and positive self-expression
- Improves your confidence and understanding of the world around you
- Associated with the ether element and the color blue
- The third eye chakra (Ajna), located behind your forehead just between the eyebrows
- Governs spiritual insight and intuition
- When balanced, it helps up to notice how connections are formed between humans and the world around them
- Associated with the light element and the color indigo

What Is Chakra Meditation?
Chakra meditation is an act that helps you to balance and regulate your chakras so that you can make the most of your spiritual and physical connectedness.
Chakras can become imbalanced and closed off from the natural energy that permeates through your being. When this happens, your being will be unregulated. Though your other chakras will begin to work in overtime to compensate for the blocked one, this creates even more problems since you will have some nonfunctional chakras and some overactive ones.
Both of these issues can create serious problems both mentally and physically. You might find yourself feeling more depressed, anxious, and disconnected from the world around you.
Chakra meditation can help to prevent this from happening. Find a comfortable, quiet, and private place where you will be undisturbed for between 30 minutes and an hour. Sit down cross-legged on the floor and find a comfortable position for your hands. A cushion or pad beneath you can work wonders for making you more comfortable.
As you breathe deeply, visualize each chakra and think about its associated color. Pay attention to the chakra until you can clearly see the color flowing through it at a consistent pace. Give each chakra between 5 and 10 minutes of visualization to ensure that you have ample time to balance it.
Once you finish, chakras should be flowing more regularly through your body. Doing this exercise once or twice a week can help you to find more consistency, balance, and connection between your spirit and daily life.
How Can Chakra Stones Be Used During Meditation?
Chakra stones (also known as healing crystals) can be used to enhance your chakra meditation experience.
You can meditate while holding your crystals and using them as a source for connecting with yourself. Note that you aren’t praying to or trying to connect with the stones- they’re simply a physical medium through which energy can flow. This energy is strengthened and healed by the stones before going back into your being stronger than ever before.
It’s an especially good idea to hold the stones for the chakras that you have identified as being unbalanced. This will allow you to focus your efforts specifically on these chakras and strengthening them.

As we have already discussed, having balanced chakras can create more connectedness with both yourself and the world around you. This has a lot of real-world benefits, especially when it comes to strengthening your relationships with others. Your familial, romantic, and platonic relationships will become deeper and more meaningful because you will have a deeper awareness of your loved one’s emotions and needs.
You also will develop a deeper sense of adventure and excitement for trying new things. When your chakras are balanced, your basic needs are 100% met. This allows you to focus on the higher tiers of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, up to and including self-actualization. When you self-actualize, you will be more creative and develop a deeper sense of purpose.
